The operator positions composed panels on the motorized infeed belt conveyor. Once the panels are positioned the operator uses the foot pedal to activate the press cycle and the motorized belt drives the panels into the press.
Belt width: 1,600 mm (63”)
Belt length: 4,500 mm (177“)
Max. conveyor belt speed: 30m/min (98 fpm)
Synchronized with press belt movement
Foot pedal controls for forwards and backwards movement
Photo-eye control of loading position
Inverter controlled reduction gear motor drive with programmable soft start / stop
This indexing device is used to assist the operator in laying the glued core material down on the back face material. The operator manually places the back face on the lay-up table. The panel indexing system begins at the head of the lay-up belt with a single stainless steel disc roller slave driven by the preceding disc conveyor. This roller has slanted guides and a stop fence to ease the trailing edge of the panel down onto the lay-up table with a minimum drop. The leading edge of the panel is carried on a free moving carriage also equipped with a stainless steel disc roller, guides and stop fence to ease the leading edge of the panel down onto the lay-up table with a minimum drop. The travelling carriage bridges the lay-up table and moves freely on guides installed on the side of the lay-up table frame. The roller assembly installed on the travelling carriage pneumatically tilts up to allow the panels to pass underneath the device. A stainless steel trash tray is installed under both rollers to catch any hardened glue chips that may drop. The traveling carriage is designed in such a way as to allow the leading edge of the panel to pass through the bridge by a distance determined by the operator. This allows the carriage to support panels that tend to sag excessively at their mid-span. Movement of the carriage is manual.

The press will be manufactured and equipped as follows:
- The press frame is a welded assembly of structural steel beams engineered with a high structural safety factor. The critical surfaces of the structure have been CNC machined after welding.
- The heating platens are produced at ITALPRESSE from solid FE 430B steel plates with metallurgical characteristics for optimum heat transfer. The heating platens are finely milled and surfaced on a specialized CNC machining center. The plates are then gun drilled on an electronically guided horizontal boring machine that produces very smooth bores for efficient circulation of the heating fluid. The bores are closed with removable threaded plugs to allow future cleaning or inspection of the bores as required.
- The press cylinders are produced in-house at ITALPRESSE from massive seamless steel tubes. A robotic tube welder carries out the deep welding of the end caps to maintain uniform weld density throughout the depth of the weld. The bores are then CNC machined assuring tight tolerances on the seal and guide ring seats.
- The cylinder rams are CNC ground, polished, and hard chromed for long life.
- The hydraulic unit includes pressure generation by means of high-pressure piston pump and reservoir. The hydraulic system in controlled by solenoid valves and an adjustable manometer for setting the final operating pressures.
- The parallelism of the platens is maintained during opening and closing by a rack and pinion system.
- A loading / unloading belt made with temperature resistant mylar film is installed in press. Drive of the belt is by a reduction gear motor with brake. Loading / unloading of the materials being pressed is simultaneous.
Automatic Calculation Of Hydraulic Pressure And Activation Of The Cylinder Exclusion System For The First Pair Of Cylinders based on panel dimensions and desired laminating pressure entered on the main touch screen HMI.
Electronic Flatness Control to detect deflection of the upper platen beyond a set tolerance due to improper positioning of the material in the press. This important feature prevents damage to the platens by stopping the buildup of pressure.
Pneumatic Shaking Device for the upper Mylar belt, activated during the press opening sequence to detach any of the pressed materials that may be sticking to the upper belt.
Blowers On The Bottom Platen to create an air cushion between the platen and the Mylar press belt, breaking the vacuum created between the belt and the platen during pressing and reducing the friction between the belt and platen during movement. This feature greatly reduces the stress on the belt drive system and increases the life of the Mylar press belts.
45 Kw Electrical Resistance Thermal Oil Boiler System including flow through heating unit, circulation pump, digital thermostatic controls, expansion tank, and piping to connect the boiler to the press platens.
Independent Control Of The Bottom Platen Temperature using a temperature controlled electric solenoid valve. This allows the bottom platen to be set at a temperature the same or less than the temperature of the top platen.
To receive the pressed panels.

A single free-standing electrical enclosure is used to house all the necessary electrical elements that control and operate the various components of the press line. UL approved electrical components are used throughout.
A Siemens industrial PC with touch screen interface is used for entering data and monitoring the hydraulic pressure, cycle time, and parallelism of the platens. All motors have thermal overload protection with reset switches. Schematics and other documentation about the electrical control system are provided in English. Emergency stops and individual controls will also be located where needed for proper operation. Remote diagnostics are possible through TeamViewer installed on the PC when connected to the Internet.
